We try to stop and pray immediately when we receive a prayer request, and the person can be sure that we will continue to pray for them as they go through whatever situation they are facing. We know that God always hears us, and granted our requests too many times to count!
Anyone is welcome to request a quilt. The quilts are set out on Sunday mornings along with a note explaining who the person is and what they would like us to pray so that we can all say a prayer and tie a knot. Each knot represents prayers said, so that when the recipients uses the quilt, they will remember that they are ‘covered in prayer.’ The quilts are made of washable materials, and the person receiving it does not need to attend LCC or even believe in God. While you are always welcome to donate funds or material to Prayers & Squares, we never accept payment for quilts.
When requesting a quilt, please consider these things:
- The recipient must have a specific prayer need (moving, marriage, new baby, illness, surgery, injury, grief, facing a hard situation).
- They must be asked if they would like a quilt.
- We need to know what they would like us to pray for (not what we think we should pray for them!) If the person is unable to speak for themselves, such as a young child or someone in a coma, it is acceptable to ask a close relative or friend for requests.)
- Be sure that you can pick the quilt up at church and take it or send it to them.
- Please, no third party requests! You need to be in contact with the person.
- In general, one quilt per family. If you feel that there is a special circumstance, or have any questions about the ministry, please call Kathy Hess at 619-443-0936 or 619-334-2182.
You can also send a prayer or quilt request by e-mailing Kathy at Kanah2@cox.net. Quilt requests that are received by Thursday, 5:00 p.m. will also be listed in the bulletin, and those received by Friday, 7:00 p.m. will be set out on Sunday, unless you specify a later date.
